I choose a flyer for students because it tends to catch students eyes. Whether walking around the halls of high school or around a college campus, students are more likely to look at a flyer than to read a letter or brochure. A flyer is short, sweet and to the point. It contains pictures and not just words so students are more drawn to it. My flyer is directed towards high school seniors, to try and convince them to attend Bloomsburg University. My goal was to show them that being an instate or an out-of-state student can only affect your college experience if you let it. Everyone is given equal opportunities.
While creating my posted I incorporated the CRAP principles as best as possible. I created contrast in my flyer by using maroon and gold, the colors of Bloomsburg, and by using all blue shapes. That way all the coloring is the same. I used repetition by using blue shapes for every picture and writing a statement or question to go with each picture as well. I used alignment by making sure all the paragraphs were shifted to the right hand side and each one was not centered.
Example 1
I choose this first example because I really liked the contrast and alignment of the flyer. The maroon and gold really stand out because they are Bloomsburg's colors. I also really like how all of the writing is lined up on the right hand side and the important information is bolded. The alignment and proximity of how all of the writing is grouped together really allows for the picture of the husky to pop. I used this poster to create my own because I really liked the color scheme that was used. I thought it would really draw the attention to Bloomsburg University and students. I also decided to bold the important information that I wanted to stand out on my poster. This poster influenced a decent amount of the contrast on my own poster.
Example 2
This is the second example of a flyer that I choose for the EAR project. I really like the use of boxes throughout this poster. It shows repetition because both the pictures and information are placed in a box. I also really think this is a good use of alignment because all the writing in each box lines up and is shifted to the left hand side. Another way repetition is used is that each picture box goes with a writing box. I think I could really use this idea in my poster, connecting each picture with a brief explanation.
Example 3
This is the third example of a flyer. I picked this example because i really like the contrast of all the different colors but I also really like how the Bloomsburg logo is placed on the flyer so the reader knows the study abroad program is through the university. I like the repetition and use of the shapes of boxes. It adds contrast to the poster along with all of the different colors. What I took from this poster was the idea of putting my pictures in shaped boxes and still incorporating the Bloomsburg logo in my flyer.
Genre 2- Letter
I choose to create a letter for parents of high school seniors informing them about the college process and Bloomsburg University as a whole. My goal of this letter was to inform all parents of what Bloomsburg has to offer and the opportunities available to all. I wanted to show parents that being an instate student or an out-of-state student cannot affect ones college experience at Bloomsburg University unless they let it. I choose a letter for parents because it is informative and a parent would sit there and read it. It is a way for them to find out all the information they need about Bloomsburg University and their child’s potential college experience.
I tried to incorporate the CRAP principles in this letter. I used contrast by bolding the important information, and items I wanted to stand out. I also added the Bloomsburg’s logo at the top of this letter to add color and make the letter look legitimate. I added alignment and proximity by starting each paragraph on the left side of the page. Lastly, by skipping lines in between every paragraph allowed every paragraph to have the same amount of spacing in between them, therefore showing repetition.
Example 1
I really like how the logo is placed at the top of this formal letter, this is something I would include in my own letter. I also really like the use of alignment of the signature at the bottom. I do not like how each paragraph is indented though. I feel as though this takes away from the professional feel of the letter.
Example 2
I really like the proximity of this letter and how it is broken up into different paragraphs. I like how the paragraphs are not indented. I think this is a good use of alignment and I incorporated both of these factors into my own letter. I like the contrast of the school logo, however I do not like how it is placed at the bottom of the letter. I included the Bloomsburg University logo for color and contrast but preferred it placed at the top of the letter.
Example 3
I really like everything about this formal letter. I like how all the paragraphs line up, how there is spacing between each paragraph, how nothing is indented, and how the logo is at the top. The only thing I would add to my own formal letter would be maybe a little spark of color. Otherwise, this would be the best example of how I would want my formal letter to look. I tried to incorporate all these aspects into my own formal letter.
Genre 3- Brochure
I choose to create a brochure for a potential employer or an outsider to my chosen literacy community. I choose a brochure because I thought this was the most informative method. It can show people pictures of what Bloomsburg University looks like, and give information about the college experience of both instate and out-of-state students. In this brochure I shared information on the benefits and disadvantages of an instate student or out-of-state student going to Bloomsburg University. My goal was to show the reader both sides of the spectrum.
I used contrast by using the Bloomsburg colors, maroon and gold for the text throughout the brochure. I used repetition by having five quotes for both instate and out-of-state students and by having pros and cons for each as well. I used alignment by having the text on the first page of my brochure lined up and having the text on my second page centered. On each page, the text looks the same.
Example 1
This was the first example of a brochure that I choose. On this brochure I really liked how each area had headings and pictures were spread throughout. I also really liked the creative ways to give information rather then just writing paragraphs. I thought there was a good use of contrast in this brochure especially with the color scheme and how the brochure sticks to two colors. These are all items I tried to incorporate into my brochure. I used maroon and gold as my two colors, spread pictures throughout the poster and tried to use different ways of giving the reader information.
Example 2
I really like the layout and alignment of this brochure. Everything lines up and works well together. All the bullet points are in good proximity of each other. I also really like the contrast and color of this brochure. It allows for the brochure to pop and stand out. This brochure is a combination of information, pictures and creative ideas. All of this really helps it to look professional. In my brochure I attempted the same approach added different aspects to create a unique and interesting brochure. My goal was to have both pictures and information throughout my brochure to keep the reader interested.
Example 3
This brochure is not the way I wanted my own to look. I used this brochure to create the opposite. I think there is too many words which makes it boring and the fact that it is only in black and white makes the reader not want to read the brochure. I added color, pictures, quotes and other things to make my brochure more interesting. This brochure showed me that something cannot be strictly writing or you will not interest your audience.
